Shofukuji Temple

Shofukiji Temple is a temple of the Obaku sect of Zen Buddhism established through the donations of the Nagasaki bugyo (magistrate) and Chinese residents for Tesshin Dohan, a widely acclaimed priest who had been a pupil of the Chinese priest Mokuan. According to records 15,000 kin (around 10 tons) of sugar was donated to finance the repair costs of the temple in 1829 (Bunsei 12).
