Uchino-shuku
Uchino, Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture
Group of Traditional Buildings
The road where the Uchino-shuku is located remains as it was during the Edo period (1603–1868), and still provides a hint of the image of a post town. It is also near Hiyamizu Toge, a steep hill that was the most difficult place to negotiate along the Nagasaki Kaido. With regard to the construction of the buildings, a Fukuoka Domain record notes that they were built by Mori Tajima, a retainer of the Kuroda family, in 1612 (Keicho 17).
