The main shop adjacent to the Muraoka Sohonpo Yokan Museum was built in 1961 (Showa 36). The first owner of the shop, Muraoka Yasukichi, was originally a rice merchant but in 1899 (Meiji 32) changed to yokan production after being handed down the tools and method of producing the sweet from a confectionery maker in Nagasaki.
