Former Dutch Trading Post on Dejima
6-1 Dejima-machi, Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture
Nationally Designated Historic Site
The Dejima Dutch Trading Post was the one and only trading location between Holland and Japan in the Edo period (1603–1868). Sugar imported by the Dutch was unloaded here and taken to a dedicated sugar warehouse on Dejima. The place became the starting location for the introduction to Japan of Western and Asian products and culture.
